Understanding nutrient requirements is crucial for maximizing potato yield, enhancing resource use efficiency, and minimizing nutrient leaching risks associated with over-fertilization. This study examines the effects of different potassium fertilizer sources and application patterns under drip irrigation on potato growth and productivity, with the primary objective of determining the optimal fertilizer rate. A two-year field experiment (2021/2022 and 2022/2023) was conducted in sandy soil in Sadat City, Menoufia Governorate, Egypt. The study utilized a completely randomized split-split plot design with three replications—the main plots assigned to fertilizer sources, the subplots to application rates, and the sub-subplots to application patterns. The findings revealed that applying 120 kg K₂O/fed led to a significant increase in plant height, tuber count per plant, and total tuber yield compared to the control. This yield enhancement was statistically significant over other treatments. Additionally, quality parameters, including specific gravity, total carbohydrate content, total sugar content, starch content, and crude protein percentage, improved with potassium applications. Among the tested potassium sources, 120 kg K₂O/fed applied as potassium sulphate (K₂SO₄) yielded the most substantial improvements in both yield and quality.
These results provide valuable insights into potassium fertilization strategies and application patterns in sandy soils, offering guidance for optimizing potato yield and quality.
